For the first time, players could grant Pokémon a temporary upgrade that would give them higher attack power and a dramatically altered look. The Mega Stone seemed like a major innovation when it was introduced in Pokémon X and Y back in 2013. Both features function similarly: They’re meant to give Pokémon a limited-time power boost during battles. The most recent Pokémon generation skipped out on adding more Mega Evolutions in favor of the Z-Move mechanic. That promotion was available exclusively in Japan, offering the items as a reward to competitive online players. The Pokémon Company previously distributed the Mega Stones for Mawile and Beedrill in February. Instead, players will have to rely upon the Pokémon Bank app on Nintendo 3Ds to port them over from older games. None of these are new Pokémon, and they’re not actually found in Sun or Moon. These special battle items are compatible with Beedrill, Audino, Mawile and Medicham. Players need to enter the password “Intimidate” on the mystery gift screen to collect the Mega Stones. Starting now, players can grab four different Mega Stones to use in-game. A new mystery gift is available in Pokémon Sun and Moon, and it’s a lot bigger than the usual free download.
